Meranti Mix (Red & White) :

Working Properties
Typically easy to work, though any interlocked grain can present problems during planning, and Dark Red Meranti is reported to have very poor steam-bending properties. Merbau

Merbau

Has an orangish-brown color when freshly cut, which ages to a darker reddish-brown. Color between boards can be highly variable. There are also small yellow mineral deposits found throughout the wood, making it easier to separate from other lookalikes. (These yellow deposits are water-soluble and can cause staining.)

Overview
Merbau is a popular hardwood derived largely from areas in South East Asia, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific islands, and northern Queensland. With its high degree of natural durability and strength it is used externally in engineering, construction and marine applications.
Merbau also features in backyards as outdoor furniture, and internally in a range of joinery, flooring and other uses.
Merbau is harvested from tropical forests and, in some cases, may be sourced from forests legally converted to other land uses or where there are inadequate controls. Certified merbau is available in Australia, so it is suggested you check with your supplier. Certification and chain of custody systems, including DNA tracking, will provide assurance that the wood is from legal and/or well managed forests.

Main Uses
Flooring, furniture, musical instruments, turned objects, and other specialty wood items.

Available Thickness
170 mm x 40 mm x 2,500 mm

Working Properties
This wood has excellent strength characteristics, along with excellent stability, making it ideally suited for use as wood flooring and other applications where strength is important.

Teak

Teak

Heartwood tends to be a golden or medium brown, with color darkening with age. Grain is straight, though it can occasionally be wavy or interlocked. Coarse, uneven texture and moderate to low natural luster. Raw, unfinished wood surfaces have a slightly oily or greasy feel due to natural oils.

Overview
Teak has dark golden yellow heartwood that turns dark brown with exposure. Its sapwood is pale yellowish and sharply demarcated. It has a straight and sometimes wavy grain with an uneven and coarse texture. When freshly cut, it has an oily feel. Teak is considered to be the most suitable species for outdoor use.

Main Uses
Boat building, Exterior and Interior joinery, Furniture, Flooring, Carving, Cabinetwork, Paneling, Turnery and Tanks fixtures requiring high acid resistance.

Available Thickness
300 mm x 42 mm x 2,500 mm

Working Properties
Easy to work in nearly all regards, with the only caveat being that Teak contains a high level of silica (up to 1.4%) which has a pronounced blunting effect on cutting edges. Despite its natural oils, Teak usually glues and finishes well; though in some instances it may be necessary to wipe the surface of the wood with a solvent prior to gluing/finishing to reduce the natural oils on the surface of the wood.
